The village of Ors is situated on the west bank of
the Canal de La Sambre, between Le Cateau and Landrecies. The
Communal Cemetery lies to the north-west of the village. It should
not be confused with Ors British Cemetery which is 1 kilometre
north-east of the church.

| Ors is a village on the Canal de la
Sambre, between Le Cateau and Landrecies. It was cleared by the 6th
Division on the 1st November 1918. (Ors British Cemetery is the
subject of a separate Register.) The Communal Cemetery lies between
the village and the railway station. In the North-East part of it
were the graves of 17 Russian soldiers and 15 German, buried by the
enemy and now removed to other cemeteries. Iin the South-East part
is a plot of 226 square yards, containing the graves of 63 soldiers
from The United Kingdom (including four unidentifed) who fell on the
4th-6th November 1918. The majority of the British dead belonged to
the 16th Lancashire Fusiliers or the 2nd Manchester Regiment. |
