About Silent Cities

Silent Cities was the name of a book on the War Cemeteries in France and Flanders published in the 1920s. This new site will provide details of all the Great War Cemeteries covered by that original publication, plus also locations further afield in Egypt, Gallipoli, Mesopotamia, Palestine and Salonika. Eventually it will cover every WW1 burial ground where British and Commonwealth soldiers are buried or commemorated.

Currently (early 2007) the site is being built for a proper launch later in 2007. Please call back to see future developments.

The site welcomes your assistance: do you have a digital image of a cemetery or memorial to the missing not covered currently by the site?

Or can you provide a photo of a serviceman or woman buried or commemorated at one of the cemeteries or memorials?

If so contact the webmaster at the email address below.

The site is very much a group effort and I am particularly grateful to all those who have supplied photographs and offered assistance - see the acknowledgements page.
